NATURAL COLOR
Relatively uniform with a slight color variation.
PRESENCE OF KNOTS
Healthy and/or repaired knots are occasionally permitted up to 3/16" in diameter.
CRACKS AND SPLITS
Open splits are not permitted on the face or at the ends of the board. **

MARKS AND CHECKS
Certain oak species may naturally exhibit surface checks. A maximum of 3/4" of surface checking is permitted per linear foot of board. Checks must be stabilized, show no risk of propagation, and be fully covered by the finish. Checks are not permitted at board ends.
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
Slight abnormal color variations accepted (e.g. tool marks, stains on slats, discoloration, bluing, etc.) Open defects must be repaired whenever possible. When repair is not possible, open defects at the center of the face must be smaller than 1/16" in diameter or equivalent. Open defects reaching the edge at the V-joint must also be smaller than 1/16". Warning: Wood is a natural, living material.
